The circular economy Flashcards

Q

Separate

A

To separate, means to divide or split different things.

I’m always very careful to separate my rubbish into paper, metal, food, plastic & so on.
We’re talking rubbish. Oh, that’s a bit harsh.
The amount of waste that we produce around the world is huge & it’s a growing problem, there are some things that we can do, like recycling.

Q

Treat

A

Treating, dealing with.
Handling it & using different processes so it can be used again.

It’s not the answer from an efficient point of view because we’re not able to get all the waste separated properly & therefore treated in the background.

Q

It is out of sight & therefore out of mind

A

A good phrase to say ignoring or don’t think about what we don’t see.

The main objective is to hide waste so we don’t see as urban or rural citizens, we don’t see the waste, it is out of sight & therefore out of mind. … that makes treating it very difficult.
It is buried, burned, or even sent to other countries. It’s not in front of my house so I really don’t think about it. Out of sight, out of mind.

Q

manufacturer

A

The company that makes products
The consumer, the person who bought it.

One possible solution is circular economy. The point is manufacturer retains responsibilities for the lifecycle of the product it produces rather than the consumer assuming that responsibility when he or she buys it.

Q

Consumer

A

The person who bought it.

Circular economy: The point is the manufacturer retains responsibilities for the lifecycle of the product it produces rather than the consumers assuming that responsibility when he or she buys it.
If the product breaks or reaches the end of its useful life, in lifecycle, then the manufacturer has to take it back & fix, refurbish or have it recycled.
I guess this would make them try to make their products last longer!
