A Penny has just dropped
When someone suddenly understands sth, particularly sth that is obvious to others.
It’s the letter which has a particular meaning when used @ the end of a piece of informal writing such as letters, emails, texts, messages. I’m very Excited. My Expectations are high. It’s an Extraordinary letter.
Clunk
The word we use for the noise of sth falling. Although tbh, a penny would never clunk. That’s more like the noise two heavy metal object would make.

Inland Revenue
Inland Revenue which is the government department in the UK that deals with tax.
So she would finish any letters with Xs, even a letter to Inland Revenue. We never heard, really, how they responded?

Dock
To dock money is to cut the amount of money you are expecting to receive.
If you dock money from someone, you reduce the amount of money you pay them.
As an employee in the UK, your tax is automatically docked from your salary.

Quid
A quid is a slang word for a British pound.
They docked her another 20 quid!
Penny
A penny is an English coin. A hundred pennies make one pound sterling.

We got X from the Roman alphabet which got it from the Greek alphabet, pronounced /ks/.
