Future of Transport Flashcards
Commonplace
Commonplace means not unusual.
(Often seen)
We’ve seen how air travel has become commonplace for many people.
Free Wi-Fi in coffee shops is commonplace these days.
Automation
Automation means using machine to do work that humans normally do & in terms of transport this means driverless vehicles.
One development we hear about is automation.
Automation has led to the loss of hundreds of jobs.
Prototype
A prototype is the first version of sth which can be tested before it is produced in large scales.
The prototype of new solar powered bike has been successful.
The automated train prototype can travel for about 100 km, without driver intervention.
How do You think You’ll be travelling to work in, say 30 years Rob?
If we look back & see how the transport has changed in the last 30 years, makes You wonder what the future hold.
Maglev
Maglev, that’s the short way of saying magnetic levitation.
Sth people thought far-fetched & now it’s real is maglev.
The Hyperloop1 is a maglev train.
There’s an exciting plan to develop a form of driverless vehicle that could move you around @ 1123 kmph.
That sounds a bit far-fetched.
Vacuum
A vacuum is a space that has all the air & any other gases removed from it.
It’s a maglev train in a vacuum system.
It will be quite challenging to convince governments to allow long metal tubes to be built on or below ground.
That would make my commute to work very quick!
… by putting it in a vacuum tube.
Prevalent
Prevalent means common.
Well, not only will home working be more prevalent, but I hope I won’t be working in 30 years.
Going faster to make your journies quicker.
Which country has the fastest ever train?
A maglev in Japan railway company.
