Vascular Path (section 2) Flashcards
What is Myocardial Vessel Vasospasm?
Excessive vasoconstriction of myocardial arteries that may result in ischemia/infarct
What are 2 possible causes of Myocardial Vessel Vasospasms?
- Excessive vasoactive mediators
ex. cocaine, caffeine, epi and norepi. - Excessive thyroid hormones
What cardiomyopathy is a possible type of Myocardial Vessel Vasospasm?
Takotsubo cardiomyopathy
Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy
- Emotional distress increases catecholamines
- LV enlargement and Coronary A. constriction
= Ischemic cardiomyopathy
What causes Varicose Veins?
Sustained intraluminal pressure that causes valvular incompetance
= twisted and dilated veins

What usually causes Portal HTN?
Cirrhosis
What are 4 common things that Portal HTN leads to?
Esophageal varices
Splenomegaly
Hemorrhoids
Caput Medusae (abdominal vein dilation)
What causes Superior Vena Cava Syndrome?
Obstruction of SVC by NEOPLASMS
– (lung carcinoma or lymphoma)
Symptoms of Superior Vena Cava Syndrome?
- Dilation of veins of head, neck, UE and chest with cyanosis
- Facial swelling, possible respiratory distress and neuro symptoms

What causes Inferior Vena Cava Syndrome?
Obstruction of IVC by NEOPLAMS or DVT
HCC or renal cell carcinoma
Symptoms of Inferior Vena Cava Syndrome?
LE edema and distention of Lower abdominal veins

Thrombophlebitis
Venous thrombosis with inflammation in the deep veins of the legs
