mod 7: bleeds Flashcards
intracerebral hematoma
frontal/temporal
^icp
contralateral hemiplegia , brain herniation
epidural hematoma
arterial-quick
skull fx, mva, sports
vomiting, seizures, hemiparesis, ipsilateral dilation and cntralateral hemiparesis =temporal herniation
subdural hematoma
blood between dura mater and arachnoid, venous
acute: w/in hrs of vein tearing, sx worsen w ^ICP
subacute: w/in 48hrs-2wks, ^etoh/old
chronic: wks-months to manifest, ^old, confusion, weakness, seizures
spinal shock
complete loss of function below injury
hypothalamus cant regulate temp, becomes room temp
resolves in 7-20 days, maybe permanent
resolution signs: hyperreflexia, spasticity, reflex bladder emptying
autonomic dysreflexia
pns/sns imbalance d/t T6 or higher injury noxious stimulus below injury=sns response (constrict) bradycardia and dilation above d/t bladder/bowel distention
autonomic dysreflexia s/s
can cause:
s/s:300 sbp, blurred vision
seizures, retinal hemorrhage, pulm edema, MI, death
Anterior spinal cord lesions d/t disease or trauma
loss of pain/temp, motor weakness; ruptured ivd, occlusion, tumor
Central spinal cord lesions d/t disease or trauma
loss of pain/temp, lower motor neuron weakness (LE);
hyperextension injury
Posterior spinal cord lesions d/t disease or trauma
loss of fine touch, vib, propprioception; cervical spondylosis, epidural abscess, vB12, syphilis, MS, tumor
