Hemostasis Flashcards
Steps of Hemostasis
- Vascular Constriction
- Primary Hemostasis (Formation of Loose Platelet Plug)
- Secondary Hemostasis (Blood Coagulation)
- Resolution
Due to LOCAL MYOGENIC SPASM, ET-1
Vascular Constriction
Platelet adhesion
Mediated by vWF of ruptured blood vessels walls and Gp1b of platelets
Platelets change shape
Platelet activation
Extrinsic and Intrinsic pathway leads to formation of THROMBIN – fibrinogen –> fibrin (meshwork that strengthens the loose platelet plug)
Secondary Hemostasis (Blood Coagulation)
D.t FIBRINOLYSIN or PLASMIN
Resolution
Binds to serine proteases in the coagulation system
(-) active forms of factors IX, X, XI and XII
Antithrombin III
Expressed in all endothelial cells except in cerebral microcirculation
Binds to thrombin and turns it into an anticoagulant
Thrombomodulin
Lyse fibrin and fibrinogen
Plasmin
Binds to antithrombin III –> inactivates thrombin and factor Xa
Heparin
