Cardiac Arrest Flashcards
1
Q
Cardiac arrest
A
Severe medical emergency - cessation of functional circulaton.
Failure of hearts pumping action.
2
Q
Reversible causes of cardiac arrest
A
4H & 4T
- hypoxia
- hypovolaemia
- hypotheramia
- hypoglycaemia, hypo/hyperkalaemia
- thrombosis
- tension pneumothorax
- tamponade
- toxins
3
Q
Aetiology & Risk Factors for Cardiac Arrest
A
- MI
- coronary artery disease
- electrolyte imbalance
- trauma
4
Q
Types of cardiac arrest
A
Shockable:
- ventricular fibrillation
- ventricular tachy (pulseless)
Non-shockable:
- asystole
- pulseless electrical activity
5
Q
Clinical features of cardiac arrest
A
- pulseless
- unconsciouss
- not breathing
6
Q
Managing cardiac arrest
A
- CPR (30:2)
- Attach defib (give 1 shock - VF/VT)
- Resume CPR (2 mins)
- Gain IV access
- Medical management for shockable/non-shockable
7
Q
Managing non-shockable rhythms in cardiac arrest
A
- CPR (30:2), attach defib
- No shock advised -> 1mg adrenaline ASAP
- Repeat every 3-5mins
8
Q
Managing shockable rhythms in cardiac arrest
A
- CPR (30:2), attach defib
- Shock advised -> shock x3
- After 3rd shock, give 1mg adrenaline & 300mg amiodarone
- Repeat adrenaline every 3-5mins
- After 5th shock, give 150mg amiodarone
