  • common chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterised by itch and dry skin
  • most commonly seen in children

  • Genetics (FHx., filaggrin gene)
  • Environment (allergens, irritants, climate, stress)
  • Lifestyle (smoking, alcohol)

  • pruritis (itch)
  • erythema
  • xerosis (dry skin)
  • skin lesions (acute, subacute, chronic)

Diagnosis criteria for eczema

A

An itchy skin condition in last 12 months
Plus 3 of:
- onset < 2 years old
- hx. flexural involvement
- hx. generally dry skin
- hx. of atopy
- current visible flexural dermatitis
