A
- also known as eczema
- common chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterised by itch and dry skin
- most commonly seen in children

Aetiology of eczema
A
- Genetics (FHx., filaggrin gene)
- Environment (allergens, irritants, climate, stress)
- Lifestyle (smoking, alcohol)

Clinical features of eczema
A
- pruritis (itch)
- erythema
- xerosis (dry skin)
- skin lesions (acute, subacute, chronic)

Acute skin lesions in eczema
A
- red papules/vesicles
- exudate

Subacute skin lesions in eczema
A
- red scaling plaques
- crusting

Chronic lesions in eczema
A
- lichenification
- hyper/hypopigmentations
- fissures
- excoriations

Diagnosis criteria for eczema
A
An itchy skin condition in last 12 months
Plus 3 of:
- onset < 2 years old
- hx. flexural involvement
- hx. generally dry skin
- hx. of atopy
- current visible flexural dermatitis

Management of eczema
A
- patient education
- emollients
- topical corticosteroids
- antimicrobials
- phototherapy
- antihistamines
