Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
A
- compulsions +/or obsessions that impair daily functioning and cause distress
- obsessions: unwanted, intrusive thoughts
- compulsions: repetitive behaviours or mental acts

- depression (30%)
- schizophrenia (3%)
- tourrettes
- anorexia nervosa
- syndehams chorea

Clinical features of OCD
A
Diagnosis requires presence of obsessions, compulsions, or both
Obsessions:
- recurrent and persistent thoughts +/or impulses
- intrusive and unwanted
- pt. will try ignore, suppress, or neutralise with actions (compulsions)
Compulsions:
- Repetitive behaviours or mental acts
- aimed to reduce stress and anxiety (but more often has opposite effect)

- perfectionism/symmetry
