Political and religious unrest and misunderstanding eventually led to the Jews trying to rebel and Rome destroyed the Jewish state. Jerusalem and the Jewish people were now under complete and submissive Roman rule

Antiochus IV punished people with death for reading or possessing the Torah and the Scriptures were burned
