what is a semi structured interview?
the same interview schedule is there, however the researcher has some freedom to move off topic and discuss other interesting points
what is a strength of using the method of interviewing a participant and then writing up notes after?
likely to be focused on the participants responses
what are weaknesses of using the method of interviewing a participant and then writing up notes after?
forgetting
elaborating
what is a strength of using the methods of taking notes of the participants responses during the interview?
less likely to forget responses
what is a weakness of using the methods of taking notes of the participants responses during the interview?
you may miss some of the participants responses due to divided attention
what is a strength of using a tape recorder during the interview and later transcribing the participants responses?
unlikely to miss or forget responses as you can listen back
what is a weakness of using a tape recorder during the interview and later transcribing the participants responses?
participant may not give consent to be recorded
in interviews done over the phone or internet they may not be aware they are being recorded - invasion if privacy
what is a strength of using a video camera to film participant responses in the interview and later transcribing responses?
able to rewatch the interview so you are unlikely to forget responses
what is a weakness of using a video camera to film participant responses in the interview and later transcribing responses?
participant may not give consent to be filmed
in interviews done over the phone or internet they may not be aware they are being filmed - invasion if privacy
