What does symbolism do?
Replace an action, person or idea
What is condensation?
One image standing for several meanings
What is displacement?
The dream directs feelings or desires onto an unrelated subject
What is secondary elaboration?
Unconscious mind collects all the different images and ties them to form a story disguising latent content, some of this material may be provided from events in the persons waking life
Why is it hard to find evidence of the effectiveness of dream analysis?
It is not a stand alone therapy rather it is a technique in psychoanalysis
What should a therapist do in dream work?
Offer various interpretations based on the patients feedback and knowledge of their life experiences, allowing the patient to select the one making the most sense
