1.1.3 External Genitalia Flashcards
What are the important parts of the female external genitalia?

What are the covered parts?

What is the pampiniform plexus?
Plexus of veins that wrap around the tortious testicular artery
Describe the innervation of the Vulva

What are the covered parts?

Grade 4 varicocele looks like?
A bag of worms
Describe the characteristics of male sexual function in regards to erection and emission

What is cut in a vasectomy?
Vas deferens
What are the covered parts?

What is a vulva?
Female external genitalia
What is the scrotum?
Musculocutaneous sac containing the testicles and epididymises
Describe the innervation of the penis
Afferent (GSA) - carried in paired doral nerve of the penis a branch of the pudendal nerve (S2, 3, 4)
Parasympathetic fibers (GVE) - Travel within the pelvic splanchnic nerves (S2, 3, 4) to deep arteries of the penis (increase blood flow to erectile tissues)
Sympathetic fibers (GVE) - L1 and L2 decrease blood flow to erectile tissue
Motor - GSE - inncervates the bulbospongiosus and ischiocavernosus muscles
What do the testis produce?
Sperm and androgens
What is the Vas?
Connects the epididymis to urethra
What are the covered parts?

How do the layers of the abdominal wall compare to the layers of the scrotum?

What are the functions of the epididymis?
Store and mature sperm
Also sperm disposal, absorption of fluid and secretion of components that modify sperm

What are the characteristics of Testicular Torsion?

Pudendal nerve arises from?
S2, 3, and 4
What are the important ventral surface structures of the penis?

What are the covered parts?

What is the importance of the ishiocavernosus and bulbospongiosus in females?

What are the characteristics of Cryptorchidism?
Cryptorchidism = undescended

What are the characteristics of Varicocele?

What is female genital mutilation?

What are the bulbospongiosus and ischiocavernosus muscle?
Present in both males and females

What is a penis?
Common outlet for both urine and semen
What is the function of the pampiniform plexus?
Cools arterial blood, producing blood that is 2-3 degrees cooler than the body
Essential for spermatogenesis
What is episiotomy?

What are the two suspensatory ligaments of the penis?
Fundiform ligament - most superficial - attaches from deep fascia to the linea alba
Suspensory ligament - attaches from the deep fascia to the pubic symphysis

Describe the characteristics of male sexual function in regards to ejaculation and detumescence

Why is there most commonly varicocele on the left side?
Left testicular vein drains to the left renal vein. The SMA cuts anterior to the left renal vein - compressing and causing the left renal vein pressure to be higher that IVC.
What are the characteristics of female sexual function?

What supplies blood to the Vulva?

What are the importance parts of the clitoris?

What are the important bodies of erectile tissue?

What are the important arteries of the penis?

What are the characteristics of hydrocele?

What are some other important parts of the female external genitalia?

Does the G-spot exist?

During the 7th and 8th month where do the testes pass to enter the scrotum?
Inguinal canal
What are the covered parts?

What are the covered parts?

What is circumcision?

What is a pudendal nerve block?

Where are the possible locations of cryptorchid testicles?

The scrotal ligament is the remnant of what?
Gubernaculum
Clitoral crura rest on what?
Perineal membrane
What are the characteristics of the lacerations of the birth canal?
