Should be neat and clean, so had few opportunities in ‘masculine’ sports such as rugby. Better suited to tennis and gymnastics

Very limited - PE wasn’t in school until 1918, less Olympic sports, clothing had to be modest and was hard to move in, limited media coverage and still discrimination to women in sport

World War 2 e.g munitions and production, also increased spectatorship to keep morale high, still few professional females

Increased opportunities, participation, media coverage, standards of play, time for sport, equality
Change in role within society e.g shared childcare, challenged stereotypes (boxing), reduced discrimination
