Cardiac control Flashcards
What is the main area related to cardiac control
Cardiac control centre (CCC)
Where is the CCC located
Medulla oblongata
What is the CCC responsible for
Regulating the heart
What is the CCC controlled by
Autonomic nervous system (ANS)
What does the ANS consist of
Sensory and motor nerves from para/sympathetic nervous systems
What nervous system contains nerves for vasomotor control
Sympathetic only
What is the function of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS)
Increase HR
What is the function of the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS)
Decreases HR (by blocking SNS)
What are the 3 main factors that affect the CCC (321)
- Neural control
- Intrinsic control
- Hormonal control
Why is neural control number 3 of factors affecting CCC
3 forms of neural control (proprioceptors, chemoreceptors, baroreceptors)
What nerve leads to sympathetic activity
Accelerator
What nerve leads to parasympathetic activity
Vagus
Why is intrinsic control number 2 of factors affecting CCC
2 main intrinsic factors:
- Temp increase - SA node firing rate, HR, O2 delivery increase
- Starling’s law - SV, Q and venous return increase
What are the receptors related to temperature changes
Thermoreceptors (detect temp change in blood and change HR accordingly)
Why is hormonal control number 1 in factors affecting CCC
Adrenaline stimulates SA node to increase HR, known as pre anticipatory rise
