Define personality
The sum of an individuals psychological characteristics which make him/her unique
What are the three personality theories
Trait, Social learning, Interactionist
Define anxiety
Negative emotional state closely associated with arousal, fear and worries
Define state anxiety
Anxiety in a specific situation
Define arousal
The energised state of readiness that motivated us to behave in a certain way
What is the trait theory
Involves characteristics that are innate, stable and enduring, e.g aggression. Suggests the situation does not impact upon behaviour. Behaviour = function of personality
What are the 4 primary traits of trait theory
Introvert, extrovert, unstable, stable

What is a stable personality
Someone who does not swing between one emotion and another and usually display consistent behavioural traits
What is an unstable (neurotic) personality
Someone who is highly anxious and has unpredictable emotions

Highly competitive, works fast, strong desire to succeed, likes control, impatient
What does type B of the Narrow band theory consist of
Non competitive, works more slowly, lacks desire to succeed, does not enjoy control
