Transfer Flashcards
Define transfer
One skills Influence of learning and / or performance of another skill
What are FMS
Fundamental movement skills
What are some examples of FMS
Running, throwing, balancing, catching, hopping
What does FMS develop
Schema of movement which can transfer to later learning
What are the 3 kinds of transfer related to the type of transfer occuring
Proactive, retroactive, bilateral
What are the 3 kinds of transfer related to the quality of transfer
Positive, zero, negative
What is positive transfer
One skill helps the learning and performance of another skill
What is the identical elements theory related to positive transfer
Greater the no. of components relevant to the ‘real’ situation, more likely positive transfer is to take place
What is negative transfer
When learning of a new task is hindered by the learning or performance of another skill
When does negative transfer occur
Familiar stimulus that requires a new response
What is bilateral transfer
Transfer which takes place from one side of the body to another
What is proactive transfer
Already learned skill influences the learning or performing of a new skill (old hinders new)
What is retroactive transfer
Learning or performing of a new skill influences that of an old skill (new hinders old)
What are some methods to optimise positive transfer
Use similar skills, ensure skills are fully learned, give + reinforcement, give clear demonstrations
What are some methods to reduce negative transfer
Help understand the requirements, don’t teach conflicting close together, practice skill in right sequence, ensure practice and match environment are the same
What are motor programmes
Generalised series of movements stored in the LTM (not under conscious control to perform)
