Goal setting Flashcards
What are the 3 types of goals
Outcome, performance, process
What is an outcome goal
Goals focusing on an end result, e.g winning a match
What is a performance goal
Focus on individual / team performance, e.g achieving a PB
What is a process goal
Goals used to improve technique (sub-routines), e.g improve front foot drive in cricket
What are some ways goals help sports performance
Focus attention, increase focus / motivation, controls arousal, monitors performance
What does SMART goal setting refer to
S - Specific (personal, clear)
M - Measurable (monitor progress)
A - Achievable (shared, realistic)
R - Recorded (agreed, measured against progress)
T - Time bound (short/long term)
What are the 3 stages of learning
Cognitive, associative, autonomous
What goals should a cognitive performer be given
Simple, aim at learning the skill, should be fun
What goals should an associative performer be given
Rehearse and practice, focus on refining skills and feedback
What goals should an autonomous performer be given
Perform with little conscious control, develop tactics, highly challenging
What is another factor related to goal setting
Progressive - long term goals should be broken down using short term goals
