System Purposes Flashcards
What is the purpose of the Nuclear Service Water System?
The Nuclear Service Water System provides assured cooling during normal and emergency conditions for all heat loads in the Auxiliary and Reactor Building except for the Ice Condenser(NF) System. The system also supplies assured make up to various systems, such as Containment Valve Injection Water(NW), Spent Fuel Pool Cooling(KF), Auxiliary Feedwater(CA), and Component Cooling(KC).
What is the purpose of the Condenser Circulating Water System?
The Condenser Circulating Water System removes energy from the Main and Feedwater Pump Turbine exhaust steam to condense and subcool it. The Condenser Circulating Water System provides an alternate suction source to the Auxiliary Feedwater(CA) Pumps.
What is the purpose of the Low Pressure Service Water System?
The Low Pressure Service Water System:
1) Provides cooling and makeup water to various loads on the secondary side of the plant.
2) Dilutes low level radioactive waste water(WL).
3) Provides a discharge path for:
a. Nuclear Service Water(RN)
b. Cooling Tower Blowdown Water(RC)
What is the purpose of the Main Steam System?
The primary purpose of the Main Steam System(MS) is to transport steam from the Steam Generators to the High Pressure Turbine and auxiliary equipment.
What is the purpose of the Auxiliary Steam System?
The Auxiliary Steam System provides steam to various plant equipment, as required during all modes of plant operation, including Condensate Cleanup, startup, normal operation, and shutdown.
What is the purpose of the Main Turbine?
The Main Turbine converts the thermal energy of the steam from the Steam Generators into rotational mechanical energy to turn the Main Generator.
What is the purpose of the Main Generator?
The Main Generator converts the mechanical energy of the Main Turbine into electrical energy to be distributed to the grid. The Main Generator at full load produces over 1200 MWe.
What is the purpose of the Moisture Separator Reheater(MSR) System?
The Moisture Separator Reheater System is designed to take the High Pressure Turbine exhaust, remove the entrained moisture, provide heating through the first and second stage reheaters, and supply moisture free, super-heated steam to the Low Pressure Turbines to improve efficiency and reduce maintenance on the Low Pressure Turbine blades.
What is the purpose of the Heater Bleeds(HM) and Heater Drains(HW) System?
The Heater Bleeds and Heater Drains System increases cycle efficiency by preheating Condensate/ Feedwater with extraction steam supplied from various stages of the High and Low Pressure Turbines.
What is the purpose of the Feedwater System?
The Feedwater System takes condensate from the Condensate System, heats it to improve efficiency and delivers it at the proper flow, temperature, and pressure to the Steam Generators to maintain required level.
What is the purpose of the Condensate Storage System?
The Condensate Storage System provides a readily available source of deaerated Condensate for makeup to the Main Condenser.
What is the purpose of the Condensate System?
The Condensate System:
1) Takes condensate from the Main Condenser Hotwell; purifies, filters, heats, and delivers it at proper pressure and temperature to the suction of the feed pumps.
2) Provides a cooling medium for:
a. Condensate System Air Ejector Condensers
b. Gland Steam Condenser
c. Steam Generator Blowdown Recovery Heat Exchangers
What is the purpose of the Recirculation Cooling Water System?
The Recirculation Cooling Water System is a closed loop cooling system which supplies cooling water to non-safety equipment throughout the plant.
What is the purpose of the Instrument Air System?
The Instrument Air System supplies dry, oil free, compressed air for instrumentation and control to various components of both units.
What is the purpose of the Station Air System?
The Station Air System supplies low pressure compressed air for air operated tools, miscellaneous equipment, and various maintenance purposes. The Station Air System, if required, is available to act as a backup supply of compressed air for the Instrument Air System.
