Feedpump Turbine(FPT) Flashcards
What is the purpose of the Main Feedwater Pumps?
The Main Feedwater Pumps increase system pressure from approximately 500psig at its suction to approximately 1200psig at its discharge at 100% power.
What is the system designator for Main Feed Pump Turbine Seal Water Injection?
CL
What is the system designator for Main Feed Pump Turbine Lube Oil?
LF
What is the system designator for Main Feed Pump Turbine Steam Seals?
TF
What is the normal supply of steam to the Main Feed Pump Turbines when power is less than 85%
- Auxiliary Steam
2. High pressure steam from Main Steam is only used if Auxiliary Steam pressure is too low
What is the normal supply of steam to the Main Feed Pump Turbines when power is above 85%
Low pressure steam from the Cross-Around Pipe at the outlet of MSR ‘A’
How is steam flow controlled by the poppet assembly in the CFPTs?
- There are two sets of poppets, High and Low pressure, both actuated by a lifting beam.
- The low pressure poppets will open sequentially until the steam flow requirements for the CFPT is met.
- If the steam flow requirement is not met with all of the low pressure poppets open the lifting beam will continue to move opening the high pressure poppet.
What is the capacity of the CFPTs?
65% of full load feed flow
Testing has shown that one CFPT can maintain S/G level up to approximately 80% power
What is the minimum flow requirement for the CFPTs?
- The minimum flow requirement is 4000gpm
2. The CFPT Recirculation Valves whenever flow falls to 4500gpm
What will cause the CFPT Recirculation Valves to fail open?
- Reactor Trip
- CFPT suction flow less than 4500gpm
- Loss of Air
What will cause the CFPT Recirculation Valves to fail closed?
Lube oil pressure less than 4psig as added protection against “windmilling” with a low oil pressure.
What is the purpose of the CFPT Steam Steal System?
The CFPT Steam Seal System supplies steam to the feedwater pump turbine seals to prevent air in leakage and steam out leakage by applying low pressure steam to a series of shaft seals.
Where does the out leakage go from the CFPT Steam Seal System?
The out leakage is drawn into the Gland Steam Condenser where the steam is condensed and the air is exhausted to the Unit Vent.
What is the purpose of the CFPT Lube Oil System?
The CFPT Lube Oil System supplies oil to lubricate and cool the CFPT couplings and bearings, control the CFPT stop and control valves, and to test the overspeed trip device.
How many CFPT Lube Oil Pumps are there?
- There are two AC motor driven pumps that provide bearing and control oil pressure during normal operations.
- There is one DC motor driven Emergency Bearing Oil Pump.
