Protein synthesis Flashcards
The larger units of ribosome contains three binding sites
A (aminoacyl) site
P (peptidyl) site
E (exit) site
The role of the ribosomes is:
- make sure the read in successive
- nonoverlapping groups of nucleotides
Codon
Each non-overlapping group of the 3 nucleotides
Reading frames
Three letter words
Anti-codon:
They make up the loop. Three nucleotides that base pair with anti-codons. in transfer tRNA
CCA sequence:
The 3’ of hydroxyl group is the site for the amino acid corresponding to attach to eachother
Aminoacyl tRNA synthetase
Connect specific amino acids to tRNA molecules. They are responsible for translating the codon sequence to amino acid.
tRNA w/o amino acid
uncharged
tRNA w/ amino acid
charged
The smaller subunit of the ribosome
encodes the start codon AUG
There are …..amino acids that are created from …..codons
20 amino acids
64 codons
The reason that is because there is redundancy
The steps for translation are:
Initiation: The AUG codon is recognized and met established as the first amino acid
Elongation: Amino acids are added 1 by 1 through trna transferring amino acids to the A site
Termination: The addition of amino acids stops and when the ribosomes encounter a stop codon
