Chapter 33.2- Tissues and organs Flashcards
What are tissues?
tissues are a combination of cells that carry out special functions and create organs
What are the components that makeup skin?
- outer layer is the epidermis ( an epithelial tissue
- The inner layer is the dermis ( a connective tissue)
What is the role of an epithelial tissue?
- provides a linining for inside and outside the body
What is the role of an epithelial tissue?
- provides a lining for inside and outside the body
- absorbs substances and releases substances
- made of closely compressed cells
What are ways in which epithelial cells can be classified
- Number of layers 1 layer=simple more layers= stratified
- The shape of cells: flat= squamos cell, square/circle = cubodial tall cells=columar
Where does epithelial cells get access to blood?
through connectivity tissues that are underneath it
What are the components of connective tissues?
it is made up of extracellular matrix which contain polysaccharides
How can connective tissues be classified?
they have two layers underneath the epithelial tissue:
- Basa lamina: specialized group of tissue
- Dermis: secretes the content of the extracellular matrix
What are the functions of connective tissues?
dermis: contains strong blood vessels that nourish the body and provides a cushion for the body
Bones cartilage ligments: supports the body and provides levers of movement
Adipose tissue: Provides tissue and fat for cells
What are the components of muscle tissues?
- made up of fibers that can contract
- contain actin and thick myosin (motor protein that uses ATP to change conformation)
present in bilateralians
What are the three types of muscle tissues?
- sketetal muscle: attach muscle to bone to move
- cardiac muscle: found in heart to make it beat
- smooth muscle: within the gut to push the movement of food and blood into vessels
What are the function of the nervous system?
- send signals throughout body to maintain homeostasis
What are the components of the nervous system?
- made up of neurons that communicate at synpases ( where chemical signals are released)
echnioderms facts
- ## 5 radical planes of symmetry
Arthpods
have hard extoskeletons and segmentated bodies
