metabolic intergration Flashcards
1
Q
How is excess glucose stored in plants vs stored in animals
A
Glucose is stored as glycogen for animals
and starch for plants
2
Q
How does the liver store glucose vs muscles?
A
muscles: use it to provide ATP for muscle contraction
liver: stores glucose for entire body
3
Q
How do other sugars contribute glycolosis?
A
When monosaccharides or diassarchides are consumed glucose molecules are released and they enter glycolysis
4
Q
How does trigylcerol break down into energy?
A
Gylcerol compound: enters glycolosis like glucose molecules
Fatty acid chains: Enters beta-oxidation where fatty acid chains are shortened. FADH2 and NADH is produced, along with ATP. The final product is acetyl-CoA
5
Q
ATP regulation
A
- when high concentrations of electron carriers or ATP is present cellular respiration slows down
