Q

What are hormones and how do they effect plant growth and differentiation?

A

Hormones are chemical signals that affect and influence growth.

  1. They help establish basic plant patterns like the arrangement of leaves
  2. They control plant growth from auxiliary buds

Q

Five major hormones: cytokinins

A
  • promotes cell division
  • synthesized at the root meristem and axial buds
  • and regulates growth

Q

How does auxin movement influence the placement of new leafs primordia?

A
  1. Auxin synthesized in dividing cells within the shoot meristem migrates to the outlayer of the tip
  2. high concentration of auxin triggers leaf growth
  3. The movement of auxin to the leaf causes a gradient stopping a leaf to form nearby creating space

Q

What is apical dominance?

A

Apical dominance is when the shoot meristem suppress the growth of auxiliary buds in order to avoid overlapping when branching

cytokinson = stimulates branching auxin suppresses it

Q

Fiver major hormones: Absidic acid

A
