What are the International Headache Society diagnostic criteria for tension headaches?
A
1.atleast two of the following pain characteristics
- pressing or tightening non pulsating quality
- mild or moderate intensity
- bilateral location.
- No aggravation with routine physical activity
- not associated with nausea/vomiting or photophobia/phonophobia.

What factors can trigger tension headaches?
A
- stress
- certain head and neck movements.

What abortive medications can be used to treat tension headaches?
A
- non steroidal anti inflammatories e.g. ibuprofen, naproxen Ketorolac
- paracetamol
- paracetamol combined with an aspirin /caffeine
- heat, ice, massage.
