Lesson 85. Managing a stage boundary, purpose Flashcards
What is the purpose of the ‘manage a stage boundary’ process?
The purpose of the ‘manage a stage boundary’ process is to enable the project manager to provide the project board with sufficient info to be able to review the success of the current stage, approve the next stage plan, review the updated project plan and confirm continued business justification.
What plan is usually created in this process and why?
A stage plan for the next stage is created. The stage plan is a detailed plan for the next stage, and the project board will approve it.
What does the project manager wish to assure the project board regarding the current stage?
The project manager wishes to assure the project board that all products from the current stage have been completed and approved.
Why does the project manager update the project plan?
The project manager will update the project plan for a few reasons:
Mark off the deliverables was done. Add new deliverables if necessary. Update the expected end project date. Etc.
Why does the project manager update the business case?
The project board will check the business justification when deciding whether to continue with the next stage. Therefore, the project manager will update the business case with the latest cost and benefits information. The project manager will know the exact cost of the current stage; they may have to update the estimated cost of the next stage, and perhaps the benefits data also needs to be updated.
