EPOC Flashcards
Oxygen deficit
Occurs when not enough oxygen present at the start of exercise to supply enoigh ATP aerobically
Define EPOC
The volume of oxygen consumed post exercise to return the body to a pre-exercise state
What are the 2 Components of EPOC
Alactacid (fast)
Lactacid (slow)
Alactacid component Functions
Restore ATP
Restore PC
Desaturate myoglobin with O2
What does the Alactacid process require and for what duration
3 litres of oxygen
2-3 mins
Oxygen debt
When a performer finishes exercise and O2 consumption remains high
Lactacid component functions
Maintenance of breathing and HR
Increase body temp
Removal of lactic acid
Glycogen replenishment
MIRG
What are the fates of lactic acid
Converted back into glucose (cori cycle)
Converted to pyruvate
Converted into protein
removed in sweat + urine
