-x- UPRT -x- Flashcards
What is the definition of an ‘upset’?
An undesired aircraft state characterised by unintentional divergences from parameters normally experienced during operations. It may involve pitch and/or bank angle divergences, as well as inappropriate airspeeds for the conditions
What must you do when you wish to intervene and take manual control during an undesired aircraft state?
When disconnecting AP, announce “I have control” and PUSH AND HOLD the red take-over push button
What is easyJet’s upset recovery technique?
Recognise and confirm Automation disengagement Consider push Consider roll Consider thrust (and/or speedbrake) Stabilize
UPRT - (U)pset? - (P)ush (R)oll (T)hrust then stabilize
For a given configuration, speed and altitude, what is lift linked to?
Only to AoA
What are some symptoms of a stall?
Aural warning
Buffeting
Pitch up effect (due to wingtips stalling first on swept wing aircraft)
Uncontrollable roll (due to asymmetric wing stalling)
What is the stall recovery technique theory?
FIRST - Reduce AoA by releasing back pressure on the sidestick, and even a nose-down pitch input may be needed. In case of lack of pitch authority, reduce thrust
SECOND - When out of the stall, increase the speed as needed, by progressively and carefully increasing thrust (due to the pitch/power couple)
What are the actions in the stall recovery technique?
Nose down pitch control - apply
Bank - wings level
When out of stall:
Thrust - Increase smoothly
Speedbrakes - check retracted
Flight path - recover
If clean config and below 20,000ft:
Flap 1 - select
What are the priorities when flying the upset recovery technique?
1 - Accuracy of action
2 - Sequence of action
3 - Speed of action
