A320 Lounge Electrics 2 Flashcards
How do you turn AC power into DC power?
Transformer Rectifiers
How many TRs are there?
3.
TR1, TR2 and ESS TR
What is the maximum output of the TR?
200A
What does the TR normally put out in volts?
28V DC power
What is the DC BAT BUS normally powered by?
DC1
What is the HOT BAT BUS?
Some things are always connected to the battery, and always energised, such as the clock
What is a BCL?
Battery Charge Limiter
What does a BCL do?
Controls battery charging and discharging via a battery contactor. It closes the battery contactors when the voltage falls below 26.5V, to allow the batteries to charge.
It also connects batteries to DC BAT BUS when starting the APU, as the drain on the electrical system is high
What is the DC ESS BUS normally connected to?
The DC BAT BUS
What is connected by the battery contactors?
Battery to DC BAT BUS
When ground power is connected, what is the maint bus connected to?
AC BUS 2 and DC BUS 2, using TR2
If AC BUS 1 fails, how does DC1 get powered?
The DC TIE closes, and DC2 sends power through the DC BAT BUS to DC1.
This creates a big load on DC2, so the DC ESS BUS then gets powered by the AC ESS FEED closing, and power comes through the AC ESS BUS-ESS TR route
If there is a failure of DC BUS 1, how is the DC ESS BUS and DC BAT BUS powered?
The DC TIE closes, and DC2 powers DC BAT BUS.
The ESS TR then provides power from the AC ESS BUS into the DC ESS BUS
What happens when AC BUS 1 and AC BUS 2 fail?
There is no way to power DC1 or DC2 either.
RAT deployed
EMER ELEC CONFIG
How long does it take for the RAT to deploy?
5 seconds to extend and a further 3 seconds to start generating blue hydraulic power
What is a brief summary of the BUS use in EMER ELEC CONFIG?
Emergency generator powers AC ESS BUS and directly to the ESS TR, which powers the DC ESS BUS
What happens if RAT fails in EMER ELEC CONFIG?
BAT 1 feeds a static invertor which powers AC ESS BUS, and sheds some stuff.
BAT 2 feeds the DC ESS BUS
How long can you fly on battery only?
20-30mins
What happens after landing in EMER ELEC CONFIG? Why?
Below 50kts, screens go blank, because the static invertor stops powering AC ESS BUS
What is the order of priority of power?
Engine
External power
APU
EMER GEN
BAT
(Think GEARB for Generators, EXT, APU, RAT, BAT)
What is the difference between the GEN1 pb and the GEN 1 LINE pb?
When using GEN 1 LINE, one fuel pump in each fuel tank remains connected to the electrical system
As a rule of thumb, which busses are captain devices powered by?
ESS BUS
As a rule of thumb, which busses are FO devices powered by?
No 2 BUS
As a rule of thumb, which type of devices are powered by AC?
Visual devices
As a rule of thumb, which type of devices are powered by DC?
Aural devices
Most computers
Which screens are powered by which busses?
AC ESS provides Capt PFD, ND and E/WD
AC2 provides FO PFD, ND and SD (lower ECAM)
Which busses power the MCDUs and FMGCs?
MDCU1 - AC ESS
MCDU2 - AC2
FMGC1 - DC ESS
FMGC2 - DC2
Which busses power the RMPs and ACPs?
RMP1 - DC ESS
RMP2 - DC2
ACP1 - DC ESS
ACP2 - DC ESS
If the FO ACP was powered by DC2, FO wouldn’t be able to hear or talk, even to each other, in EMER ELEC
