In an RTO, which warning or caution would mean you could still continue with the takeoff?
FWS FWC 1+2 Fault
In an RTO, below what speed will ground spoilers not automatically deploy?
72kts
In an RTO, below what speed will autobrake not engage?
72kts
In an RTO into a headwind, should you turn towards or away from a burning engine?
Towards
In an RTO into a tailwind, should you turn towards or away from a burning engine?
Away from
What are the FO responsibilities in an RTO?
Call “reverse green, decel”
Cancel audio warning and caution
Inform ATC “Stopping”
Call 70kts
Once stopped, bring out checklist as a precaution
What are the captain’s responsibilities in an RTO?
Monitor braking, and if necessary apply manual brakes
Bring the aircraft to a stop
Stow reversers
Apply park brake
PA “Attention, crew at stations”
In an RTO, immediately after the ‘memory items’, once captain has made the “Attention, crew at stations” PA, what is likely to happen?
Captain will say “My radios, ECAM actions” and work through the ECAM while the captain builds up a picture of whether an evacuation will be necessary or not
In an RTO, after stopping using autobrake MAX, what do you need to remember before moving again?
Disarm spoilers to release the brakes
Following an RTO, if a new takeoff is attempted, what will the process be?
Reset both FDs, reset the FCU and then restart SOPs from the After Start checklist.
Consider brake temperatures, especially noting that temperatures will still be rising for some time after the RTO
During an EFATO, what should the initial speed target be?
Between V2 and V2+15kts
During an EFATO, what should bank angle be limited to, when more than 3kts below the manoeuvring speed for the configuration?
15 degrees
(This is a conservative rule of thumb as if the engine out condition has been identified then the FD/AP will automatically limit the bank angle using a less conservative algorithm
Why is selecting TOGA immediately after an EFATO potentially a handling challenge?
Because the aircraft may be blending from ground mode into flight mode. The blending (in pitch control) occurs initially once the aircraft achieves a pitch attitude of 8 degrees and lasts for 5 seconds.
The subsequent increase in thrust at this time may lead to a pitch up moment, resulting in a reduction of speed at a time when speed is critical
During an EFATO when should you select AP on?
Once the aircraft is in trim with the gear fully up
During an EFATO, when should you request “Pull heading”?
Early on in the event, before commencing ECAM drills. The exceptions are if the EOSID follows the actual SID, in which case NAV mode may be more appropriate, or if a very early turn is required on the EOSID, where the importance of the turn overrides the importance of trimming. These cases would be briefed prior to takeoff
