Command E-Learning 1 - Fuel Policy Flashcards
What is easyJet’s fuel policy?
To carry the minimum amount of fuel necessary to safely and efficiently complete the flight, while meeting regulatory requirements and maintaining operational flexibility
Block fuel should be carried unless there are sound operational reasons to carry extra fuel
Should you take extra fuel if you expect destination holding or lower cruise level?
Operations Support reviews all sectors, and OFP will include extra fuel when level restrictions or destination holding are common
When should you add extra fuel?
When a ‘Strong Possibility’ exists that it will be used
Should you consider fuel as weight or time?
Time, so express in how much time you want to get through the extra fuel
What is the approximate fuel penalty for carrying extra fuel?
3% of extra fuel per hour of flight (hence on a 2 hour flight, 6% of the extra fuel will be burned due to excess aircraft weight)
Does taxi fuel take into account expected stand and runway?
No
Does taxi fuel include APU burn?
Yes
What is taxi fuel calculated from?
Historical data
What cost index is alternate fuel planned at?
CI0
What is included in alternate fuel?
Fuel to complete missed approach at destination airport, fly to alternate airport using planned route, altitude and speed
What is included in final reserve fuel?
Fuel to fly at holding speed, 1500ft above destination alternate in standard conditions for 30 minutes
When can contingency fuel be used?
Any time after engine start or push back
When will additional fuel be loaded by LIDO?
If fuel over destination is less than 1500kg, to prevent ECAM low fuel message
What is SCF?
Statistical Contingency Fuel
When is SCF available?
When data from over 50 flights is available
What is CONT95/99 based on?
Operational factors, or an amount to fly for 5 minutes at holding speed at 1500ft above destination airport in standard conditions
What do we use if SCF isn’t available?
Contingency must then be the greater of 5% of trip fuel or an amount to fly for 5 minutes at holding speed above the destination airport in standard conditions (MINCONT)
In the EXTRA section of the fuel OFP, there will be a fuel figure in brackets. What does this mean, and which letters could follow it?
This is maximum possible extra fuel, and the limiting factor.
L = Landing Weight
T = Takeoff Weight
C = Tank capacity
On the fuel OFP, what does FOD stand for?
Fuel Overhead Destination
What is FOD made up from?
Sum of:
Final reserve
Alternate
Contingency
Additional
Tankering
What does CNR stand for?
Company Normal Reserve
What does CNR comprise?
Final reserve
Alternate fuel
What is contingency fuel made up of, when not using SCF?
The greater of:
5% trip
5 minutes holding at 1500ft above destination
What does CONT95 mean in words?
If CONT95 is 285kg, it means that 95% of flights on that city pairing needed 285kg contingency fuel or less to land at or above CNR
What is MINCONT?
A minimum of 5 minutes’ holding fuel in ISA conditions at 1500ft above destination
Is MINCONT specific to aircraft type?
Yes
Does more recent data hold more weight in SCF generation?
Yes
How recent must data be to be used for SCF purposes?
Within last 2 years
What options are available if we cant load enough fuel?
Offload pax
Offload bags
Tech stop
Dispatch under alternative planning procedures
