Flight Controls 3 Flashcards
How many flight control laws are there?
- Normal law
- Alternate law
- Direct law
- Mechanical Backup
- Abnormal attitude
What does SEC stand for? What does it do?
Spoiler Elevator Computer.
It has several main functions, including:
Normal roll via spoilers
Speed brakes and ground spoilers
Alternate pitch (SEC 1 and SEC 2 only)
Direct pitch (SEC 1 and SEC 2 only)
Alternate LAF (Load alleviation function)
Abnormal attitude
Direct roll
What does ELAC stand for? What does it do?

It has several main functions, including:
ELAC 1 controls ailerons
ELAC 2 controls elevators and horizontal stabilizer
Both control:
Normal pitch and roll
Normal LAF (load alleviation function)
Direct pitch and roll
Aileron droop
Abnormal attitude
Acquisition of autopilot orders
At what attitude do FDs disappear in normal law? When are they recovered?
25 degrees up, 13 degrees down.
Recovered at 22 degrees up and 10 degrees down
What is the maximum bank angle?
67 degrees
What is the high speed protection bank angle limit?
40 degrees
What happens when sidestick released at bank angle greater than 33 degrees?
Bank angle returns to 33 degrees
If at ValphaMax and sidestick released, what will speed go to?
ValphaProt

Pitch - direct
Roll - direct
What causes mechanical backup?
Loss of multiple flight control computers or flight control surfaces, or total but temporary electrical loss
