Flight Controls 3 Flashcards
How many flight control laws are there?
- Normal law
- Alternate law
- Direct law
- Mechanical Backup
- Abnormal attitude
What does SEC stand for? What does it do?
Spoiler Elevator Computer.
It has several main functions, including:
Normal roll via spoilers
Speed brakes and ground spoilers
Alternate pitch (SEC 1 and SEC 2 only)
Direct pitch (SEC 1 and SEC 2 only)
Alternate LAF (Load alleviation function)
Abnormal attitude
Direct roll
What does ELAC stand for? What does it do?
Elevator Aileron Computer.
It has several main functions, including:
ELAC 1 controls ailerons
ELAC 2 controls elevators and horizontal stabilizer
Both control:
Normal pitch and roll
Normal LAF (load alleviation function)
Direct pitch and roll
Aileron droop
Abnormal attitude
Acquisition of autopilot orders
At what attitude do FDs disappear in normal law? When are they recovered?
25 degrees up, 13 degrees down.
Recovered at 22 degrees up and 10 degrees down
What is the maximum bank angle?
67 degrees
What is the high speed protection bank angle limit?
40 degrees
What happens when sidestick released at bank angle greater than 33 degrees?
Bank angle returns to 33 degrees
If at ValphaMax and sidestick released, what will speed go to?
ValphaProt
What is the maximum speed in alternate law?
320kt/M0.77
What is shown at the low speed end of the speed tape in alternate law?
The barbers pole and the amber hockey stick only
In alternate law, is alpha floor available?
No
Where on the speed tape is VSW?
Top of the barber pole
Will you get the overspeed master warning and aurul warning in alternate law? If so, when?
Yes. VMO +4kt (MMO + 0.006)
In direct law, what does the sidestick command?
Pitch - direct
Roll - direct
What causes mechanical backup?
Loss of multiple flight control computers or flight control surfaces, or total but temporary electrical loss
What happens if hydraulic input is lost to slats and flaps? Green? Yellow? Blue?
Surfaces operate at half speed. Yellow flaps. Blue slats. Green both
What are the flap limiting speeds for A319 and A320 in config 1+F
215kts
What are the flap limiting speeds for A319 and A320 in config 2
200kts
What are the flap limiting speeds for A319 and A320 in config full
177kts
What is alpha lock?
Inhibits slat retraction if low speed or high angle of attack
What would you do on approach if selecting flaps 2 and the ECAM caution F/CTL FLAPS LOCKED - WING TIP BRAKE ON came on
Pull speed
DO NOT move the flap lever
Discontinue the approach
If below FCU altitude, it would need to be a go around, however because the flap lever can’t be moved, briefly confirm both pilots understand it will be a go around with no flap movement, then say something like “Go around maintain config”, and follow the missed approach. Aviator, Navigate, Communicate, then consider ECAM.
ECAM, then consult QRH landing with slats or flaps jammed
What are the inputs to the FAC?
ELAC and rudder trim
What are the outputs from the FAC?
Rudder
What are the inputs to the ELAC?
Sidestick, pedals, FMGC
What are the outputs from the ELAC?
FACs, SECs, Ailerons, Elevators, THS
What are the inputs to the SEC?
ELAC, sidestick, Speed brake lever
What are the outputs from the SEC?
Spoilers, Elevators
What does FCDC stand for?
Flight Control Data Concentrator
How many FCDCs are there?
2
What are the inputs for the FCDC?
ELACs, SECs
What are the outputs from the FCDC?
EIS, ECAM
Which SEC is responsible for which spoiler?
S1 = SEC 3,
S2 = SEC 3,
S3 = SEC 1,
S4 = SEC 1,
S5 = SEC 2
Which hydraulic system controls which spoiler?
S1 = G,
S2 = Y,
S3 = B,
S4 = Y,
S5 = G
When moving from CONFIG 1+F to clean, approximately how long does it take for the flaps and slats to move to zero?
13 seconds for slats 0
5 seconds for flaps 0
When using auto flap retraction, approximately how long does it take for the flaps to retract fully? How do you know when they have?
5 seconds
You can use the speed tape, as it jumps to the new speed regime, or you can use the E/WD
