What is the minimum number of flight crew?
2 pilots, one of which must be designated the commander

Need to achieve 100 flight hours and flown 50 sectors within 120 consecutive days from completion of final line check
150 flight hours and flown 50 sectors since final line event (no time limit)
Additional requirements
Captains - successful completion of first sim LPC or LOE
FOs - successful completion of a continuation training flight
What are the restrictions on inexperienced flight crew members?
Cannot have two inexperienced flight crew members operating together in control of an aeroplane.
There may be additional restrictions on operating to certain aerodromes
When is a safety pilot needed?
Base training
LFUS (Line Flying under Supervision) until positive release
What qualifications does a safety pilot need?
Needs to be RHS qualified (FO or RHS qualified captain) and cannot be inexperienced crew
What is the role of the safety pilot?
Monitor for errors or omissions
Assist in workload management
Assist or assume command in case of incapacitation of the training captain
In case of an unacceptable reduction in safety margin, the safety pilot has a responsibility to highlight this to the other crew in a manner appropriate to the particular circumstance
What is the minimum number of flight crew required for boarding?
At least one flight crew member must be present for boarding. This may be a first officer. If it is the FO, Commander’s responsibilities are delegated to the FO until the Commander is present.
The Commander shall ensure that all pre flight briefing and preparation is complete before departure
What is the minimum crew for taxiing?
A type-qualified Commander and a second pilot qualified on type
If an A319 uses seat blocking tables, which row must they be installed on?
Row 23
Is there any scope to operate with 2 or fewer cabin crew members?
No. Reduction of cabin crew below 3 is not allowed
Can you reduce cabin crew numbers from 4 to 3?
Yes, in unforeseen circumstances
Can non-commercial flights be operated without cabin crew?
Yes, providing the number of persons in the passenger cabin compartment does not exceed 19
What are the requirements for a non-operating crew member to assist during boarding?
Must be qualified on type
Must be fit to fly
If not in uniform, they must be in a high vis vest, and as part of the boarding PA, passengers must be informed that the crew member wearing a high viz vest is part of the operating crew
If a non-operating crew member assists with boarding, do they need to have participated in the briefing?
No, however they must have received a brief from the SCCM covering their duties and door responsibility during boarding
If a non-operating crew member assists with boarding, when must they stay on board until?
Until the rostered crew member has arrived AND has been briefed by the SCCM
If boarding with a non- operating crew member, can they assist with aircraft preparation tasks, such as pre-flight safety and security checks?
Yes, as briefed by SCCM
If boarding with non-operating crew member, and the late arriving crew member is the operating SCCM, what must you ensure once they arrive?
That a full crew briefing is completed
When would a cabin crew member no longer be classed as inexperienced? How can you tell if a cabin crew member is inexperienced?
Cabin crew with no flying experience need to complete 40 sectors as operating crew
Cabin crew with over 1 year’s experience in the past 2 years need to complete 20 sectors as operating crew
Inexperienced cabin crew members are identified with 3 stars
When in 3 cabin crew operation, how many cabin crew can be inexperienced?
Maximum of one
Supernumerary inexperienced crew members are permitted to fly in addition
When operating with 4 cabin crew members, how many can be inexperienced?
2, but they must be operating at opposite ends of the cabin
Supernumerary crew members who re inexperienced can also fly in addition to the above
When operating with 5 cabin crew, how many can be inexperienced? How about on an A321?
A maximum of 2 inexperienced cabin crew members can fly together. They must be at opposite ends of the cabin. Inexperienced crew cannot operate in CC5 position on the A321
Supernumerary inexperienced crew can operate in addition to the above
What are the restrictions around operating with reduced crew?
Not permitted from an operating base
Must be authorised by the Network Duty Manager
In the context of reduced cabin crew operations, what is the definition of unforeseen circumstances?
Incapacitation which occurs during flight duty period, either in-flight or during a flight transit of the same flight duty period away from the originating base which precludes crew member from performing their duties
Unavailability due to external factors outside the scope of the company’s ability to plan or control, and late reporting of sickness
Can a flight depart from its originating base without a designated SCCM?
No
What can you do if the SCCM becomes incapacitated after departure from the originating base?
The most appropriately qualified cabin crew member will be assigned to act as SCCM in order to complete the flight or series of flights.
If there are no qualified SCCMs the next most experienced crew member may assume the position of interim SCCM, and this must be agreed with the commander
In the event that the SCCM becomes unfit to operate downroute, what requirements must the interim SCCM have?
Minimum 12months’ experience as an operating cabin crew member (not necessarily with easyJet) and a minimum of 20 sectors on type
SCCM shall familiarise themselves with SCCM specific duties prior to departure
When an SCCM becomes incapacitated downroute, can you depart a transit base (easyJet base which is not the originating base) still using the interim SCCM?
Yes, providing no SCCM is available at the transit base, the series of flights can continue to the originating base with the interim SCCM
Are infants included in 50 passengers per cabin crew?
No
