respiratory: beta 2 adrenergic Flashcards
1
Q
beta 2 adrenergic agonist moa
A
act by selectively activating the beta 2 receptors in the bronchial smooth muscle, resulting in bronchodilator
2
Q
common beta 2 adrenergic
A
albuterol formoterol levalbuterol salmeterol terbutaline
3
Q
beta 2 adrenergic route and theraputic uses
A
route: inhalation
therapeutic uses:
- short acting: treatment of asthma attack
- long-acting: control of asthma
4
Q
beta 2 adrenergic complications
A
- tachycardia > 100bpm
- angina
- tremors
5
Q
beta 2 adrenergic contraindications
A
- tachydysrhythmias
- cautiously with diabetes, hyperthyroidism, heart disease, HTN, angina
6
Q
beta 2 adrenergic interactions
A
- beta-blockers
- MAOIs/ tricyclic antidepressants
7
Q
beta 2 adrenergic nursing considerations
A
- assess lung sounds, pulse, bp, prior and at peak after admin
- observe for wheezing, dizziness, heart palpitations, CP (if occurs; withhold med and notify provider)
- use inhaler appropriately
- use short term for acute exacerbations
- use long term for maintenance of asthma
8
Q
beta 2 adrenergic pt teaching
A
- show prior inhaler use
- tell pt to stop med and notify the provider if wheezing, cp, dizziness, palpitations occur
- tell to avoid smoking
- can sometimes cause a bad taste after use
