A
- caution in clients who have gi perforation or obstruction, abd pain

antacids interactions
A
- may decrease absorption of several medications
- warfarin, digoxin and tetracycline (obsoption decrease and reduced effects)

antacids nursing implication
A
- admin 1-3 hours before meals or at bedtime
- shake suspension well before admin
- monitor for hypercalcemia (constipation, anorexia, n/v, confusion)
- monitor for hypermangensium (CNS depression)
- use caution with antacids that contain sodium with hypertension or heart failure pt

- chew tablets thoroughly, then drink 8oz of water or milk
- shake liquid formulations well
- take all meds 1 hr before or after taking antacids
