  • warfarin, phenytoin, theophylline, and lidocaine (risk or increased levels in the blood)
  • concurrent use of antacids can decrease absorption of h2 antagonist
  • smoking (decreases effectiveness)

  • famotidine can be given iv in acute situations
  • teach clients that smoking should be avoided
  • encourage clients who are symptomatic to see gi specialist
  • treatment starts with x2 daily, then tapered to 1x daily usually at hs

A
  • treatments starts with 2 doses a day then when ulcer is healed once a day at night time
  • smoking cessation teaching
  • avoid alcohol
  • limit foods that cause gi irritation
  • notify your provider if you see coffee ground emeis
  • limit use of aspirin and other nsaids
  • increase fiber and fluids to help constipation
  • no overeatting, stress, smoking, NSAIDS
