- allergy, hypersensitivity, anaphylaxis, possible cross-sensitivity to penicillin
- bleeding tendencies from cefotetan and cefrtiazone
- thrombophlebitis with iv infusion
- renal insufficiency (bun over 20 aint good honey, cr over 1.3 bad kidney, urine 30ml of less kidneys in distress)
- pain with Im injections
- antibiotic associated pseudoembranous colitis (c-diff)

- caution with renal impairment and bleeding tendencies

- probenecid (delayer renal excretion)
- calcium and ceftrixone interaction ( do not admin together)

- obtain specimens before starting antibiotic therapy
- complete entire course of therapy, even if symptoms resolve
- give po forms with food
- monitor for s/s of allergies
- monitor for loose stools
- monitor for s/s of bleeding
- if given IM; use ventrogluteal site and rotate often
