penicillin F, Penicillin V
amoxicillin, amoxicillin-clavulanate
nafcillin, oxacillin
ticarcillin-clavulanate, pipercillin, tazobactrum
penicillins antibiotics complications
- allergies, anaphyaxis
- renal impairment (BUN and Creatine)
- hyperkalemia, dysrhthmias
- hypernatremia

penicillins antibiotics contraindications
- history of allergic reactions to penicillins
- caution with kidney dysfunction clients
- risk for clients with penicillin allergies to also be allergic to cephalosporins
penicillins antibiotics interactions
- iv ahminoglycosides (they will be inactivated)
- probenecid (delays excretion of pcn)
penicillins antibiotics nursing implications
- obtain specimens before starting antibiotic therapy
- take penicillin V, amoxicillin and amoxicillin- clavulanate with mea;s- all others 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals
- must complete entire course of therapy, even if symptoms resolve
- additional form of contraception while taking anitbitocs
- minitor for s/s of allergic reaction

- depending on med, take with or without meals
- take off medication doses, even if you feel better
- use extra form of contraception
- report s/s of allergies to your provider
