P13 - Leukocytes Part 3 Flashcards
1
Q
diseases and conditions that cause lymphocytosis
A
- chronic inflammation
- physiologic (shift) - fight or flight
- lymphoproliferative disorders
2
Q
pathogenesis of chronic inflammation causing lymphocytosis
A
- macrophages and lymphocytes release cytokines -> stimulate production of lymphocytes in lymph nodes -> lymphoid hyperplasia -> increase production and release of lymphocytes to blood
3
Q
pathogenesis of physiologic (shift) causing lymphocytosis
A
- increase catecholamine -> down regulation of adhesion proteins in vessels -> shift from marginating to circulating pool
- increase blood flow rate -> shift from marginating to circulating pool
4
Q
pathogenesis of lymphoproliferative disorders causing lymphocytosis
A
- neoplastic transformation of lymphocyte -> clonal proliferation of neoplastic lymphocytes -> increase production and release of neoplastic lymphocytes
5
Q
physiologic shift of lymphocytes most commonly seen in
A
- cats
6
Q
common causes of monocytosis
A
- inflammation (acute or chronic)
- steroids (stress)
7
Q
common causes of eosinophilia
A
- hypersensitivity/allergic disorders
- parasitism
- mast cell degranulation
- idiopathic eosinophil conditions
8
Q
common causes of basophilia
A
- hypersensitivity/allergic disorders
- parasitism
