sharing oneself with others; increases on Internet bc less self-conscious; can deepen friendships and also cause problems via saying the wrong thing or sending pics

excessive self-love and self-absorption; tend to be active on social media, have fake friends, post more excessive pics, retaliate more against neg comments
how to decrease negative effects of the Internet
monitor time, monitor feelings, hide from most distracting online friends when necessary, check email/phone less when studying, and refocus by taking a nature walk
achievement motivation
desire for significant accomplishment, mastering skills/ideas, control, and attaining a high standard; persist in middle of project; some goals may have no survival value and aren’t diminished when fed; trumps IQ
grit
similar to conscientiousness; passion and perseverance in pursuit of long-term goals; this with self-control = achievement
strategies to achieve goal
make concrete and challenging goals, announce to friends and family, develop plan, monitor/record progress, create supportive environment (help yourself); transform hard-to-do behavior to a must-do habit
