# - Femoral neck - Intertrochanteric + Subtrochanteric Flashcards
Femoral Neck Fracture;
Common injury;
o As a ? fracture in the ?.
o As a ? fracture: common site of bony ?.
On examination, there is ? pain on ? movements.
o If the fracture is displaced, the patient lies with the limb ? and ? rotated due to effect of ?.

? ? is very important here, with the femoral head getting ? ? from three main sources;
o ? vessels: run inside the medullary canal.
o Medial / Lateral ? artery ?: from the ? femoris, run ? through the joint capsule up to the femoral ?. The ? ? is the major source of blood.
o Artery of the ? ?: makes up less than ?% of the normal blood supply to the femoral head.

Femoral Neck fracture
All fractures of the neck disrupt the ? blood supply.
Any ? fractures will also disrupt blood supply from the circumflex arteries within the ? ?.
The remaining supply from the artery of the ? ? is insufficient

lntertrochanteric Fractures;
Fracture lies between the ?, and are therefore ?.
o ? threat to the blood supply of the femoral ?.
Management;
o ? ? ?: fracture reduced on a ? table in theatre, then a ?-? positioned under ? guidance before the ? ? ? is then fixed.

Subtrochanteric Fractures;
Occur below the ?, thus again are ? and there is ? threat to the femoral head blood supply.
They generally occur in ? ? ?, or as a result of ? lesions.
Management;
o ? nail and hip ?.
