  • Shift balance from sympathetic nervous system to parasympathetic (slowing breathing and heart rate, decreasing BP, lowering cortisol levels, and increasing blood flow to viscera
  • protection against conditions such as arthritis, osteoporosis, and back pain by taking joints thru full range of motion, as well as increasing proprioception and balance
  • inhibit stress and promote quality of life for cancer patients, as tumors are exacerbated by stress (decreased immune functioning)
  • improved cardiovascular efficiency and homeostatic control of the body
  • decrease in post chemo induced nausea, as well as decreased anxiety, depression, and distress
  • addiction treatment can see positive influence with yoga, particularly eating disorders
