Chiropractic health profession
Focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and nervous system and its general effects on health
Osteopathic medicine
Distinctive form of medical care founded on philosophy that all body systems are interrelated and dependent upon one another, incorporates osteopathic manipulative treatment
Craniosacral therapy (CST)
Gentle hands on method of evaluating and enhancing physiological functioning of the craniosacral system (membranes and CSF surrounding the spinal cord) to improve CNS function
Applied kinesiology
Uses muscle testing as a feedback mech to examine and diagnose the body’s functioning, idea that strengthening muscle will improve health

Chiropractor education
Become a doctor of chiropractic in 4-5 years with cirriculum of diadactic and clinical experience, have to become nationally board certified and have different state licensing requirements
Chiropractic scope of practice
-most common therapeutic procedure is spinal manipulation, but also trained in radiology and therapeutics, firmly believe they can have further reach including infectious disease disorders
High velocity low amplitude (HVLA)
Short, quick manipulations of individual joints using hands or instrument to restore joint mobility and alleviate pain
Risks of chiropractics (2)
- Cervical/vertebral artery dissection and ischemic stroke (small association)
- aggravation of spine disorders (nerve compression or herniation) (let the patient know these risks beforehand)
Costs and insurance of chiropractics
-included in many health insurance plants with varying copays and deductables
Scientific Evidence of chiropractic
Difficult to prove evidence and effectiveness as it requires hands on therapy and cannot keep both practitioner and patient blind to treatment
