Ayurveda definition
Holistic system of healing evolved among Brahmin sages of ancient India some 3-5000 years ago, includes use of herbal meds, mineral or metal supplements, surgical techniques, or application of oil by massages, emphasizes proper nutrition, massage, meditation, and natural meds
The Tridosha
Based on the concept that everything in the universe is made up of combo of 5 elements and the tridosha is the regulator of everything physiological and psychological in the living organism, including space (ether), air, fire, earth, and water
3 universal energies and what they regulate
Vata (space and air)
Pitta (fire and water)
Kapha (water and earth)

Impulse principle necessary to mobilize function of the nervous system

Bilious humor that secreted between the stomach and bowels and flowing thru liver and permeating spleen, heart, eyes, and skin - chief quality is heat
Kapha
Body fluid that relates to mucus, lubrication, and carrying of nutrients

In homeopathy, a substance capable of provoking symptoms in a healthy organsim, acts as a curative agent in a diseased organism in which the same symptoms are manifested
Vitalism
Disease, in the homeopathic model, is thought to arise from inherent or developed weaknesses in patients defense mechanisms, creating susceptibility to toxic environmental influences

The process in homeopathy where small quantities used for treatment are prepared by serial dilution of extracts thru violent shaking of container and dilated extract
Materia medica
A list of thousands of remedies listed in a homeopathic text, all FDA approved, OTC, and come from plant, mineral, and animal sources
Does homeopathy work? Is it safe?
- Sufficient evidence suggests effects cannot be explained by calling them a mere placebo effect, more research is required
- It is considered a safe alternative to other therapies but dangers are psychological dependence and delay in institution of effective therapy
