Immunizations Lecture Powerpoint Flashcards
Common mistakes in vaccine administration (3)
- scheduling errors (giving doses too young)
- interval misunderstanding (without minimum spacing)
- all vaccines CAN be given at same time as other vaccines
If live vaccines are not given on the same day, must wait __ to give 2nd live vaccine, otherwise require ___
4 weeks, repeating it (its invalid)
4 day grace period
Vaccines administered up to 4 days before minimum interval or age can be counted as valid, but if 5 days or earlier is not considered valid and should be repeated at age appropriate time
Should you restart a vaccine series because of a longer than recommended interval?
No, start where left off, no maximum interval exists
What if a less than or more age appropriate dose is given?
- less than full dose is invalid, vaccination should be given as soon as appropriately feasible
- more than age appropriate consider it valid
What if an expired vaccine is given?
-invalid, repeat when able (4 weeks if live vaccine)
Is mild illness a contraindication to vaccination?
No
