Chronic health condition definition
A health condition that lasts >12 months or at the time of diagnosis is likely to have a duration of >12 months, frequently categorized by type, duration, impact on daily activities, and requirement for services (its kind of a grey area)

- daily burden of care rests on the families
- conditions are unpredictable

Asthma in children
Reversible airway obstruction, need to recognize and diagnose early and initiate indicated treatment based on stage, with goal being to control and prevent attacks
Diabetes in children***
Type I usually presents with history of 1 or 2 weeks of vomiting, increased thirst, and polyuria, usually in ketoacidosis needing to be stabilized in hospital***, type 2 has significantly increased alongside obesity
Cystic fibrosis in children
Genetic chloride pump disorder resulting in thick mucus plugs, salty sweat, usually diagnosed in infancy and needs follow up
