Introduction to the drug
A
Activates the fibrolytic system, inducing the breaking up of inter vascular thrombi and emboli

How is the drug presented and administered
A
10 units in 10ml water for injection

Why would you need to administer this drug to someone
A
- Stemi with a 12hour onset of symptoms where PPCI is NOT available

What are the typical doses
A
- Admin a bolus of Heparin before first dose, flush the cannula well or use a different site
- Note the time of the first dose
- Second dose 30mins after first
- <18yr old - 10ml
- Second dose - 10ml

What are the side effects of this drug
A
- Bleeding - Minor, Major
- Arrthymias
- Anaphylaxis
- Hypotension

Pharmacodynamics of this drug
A
- Reteplase is a recombinant plasminogen activator
- Promotes thrombolysis by converting plasminogen to plasmin which degrades fibrin and fibrinogen’
