f. bluish color around lipsNot enough O2
Causative Agent
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV)
Pathogenesis
1-infects respiratory tract epithelium
2-inflamed bronchioles partially plugged
characteristic
1-high risk of secondary infections
2-leading cause of serious lower respiratory tract infections of infants & young children
3- usually mild in healthy children & adults
4- no lasting immunity
infects respiratory tract epithelium causing:
(1) cell death
(2) cells slough off
inflamed bronchioles partially plugged
from ____________causes_________
(1) from sloughed cells, mucous, & fluid
(2) causes wheezing
transmission
a. inhalation
increase risk at :
leading cause of serious lower respiratory tract infections of infants & young children
can cause:
(1) serious disease in elderly
(2) healthcare-associated epidemics
Prevention
1-monoclonal Ab (passive immunity)
for underlying illness/infants
2-healthcare-associated : strict isolation
you will remain in the room=strict isolation
