what has pulmonary rehabilitation been shown to do?
- reduce symptoms
- improve dyspnea
- improve exercise endurance and quality of life
- it also increases physical and emotional participation of ADLs
what is the goal of pulmonary rehabilitation?
restore a patient to the fullest medical, emotional, social and vocational status possible
what are the 3 main components of rehabilitation?
- exercise training
- nutritional counseling
- patient education
what has lung volume reduction surgery been shown to do?
improves survival in COPD patients that have emphysema mainly in the upper lobes of the lungs
- removes a large part of damaged lung, reduces hyperinflation, allowing the diaphragm to contract more optimally and allow the remaining lung tissue to expand better on inspiration
- helps lung recoil
- not apart of rehabilitation
