Neurotransmission Flashcards

1
Q

what are the 4 steps of neurotransmission?

A
  1. the synthesis of a transmitter substance
  2. the storage and release of the transmitter
  3. binding of the transmitter to receptors on the post synaptic membrane
  4. removal of the transmitter from the synaptic cleft

Q

how do nerve cells communicate?

Q

what causes an excitatory or inhibitory action?

A

neurotransmitters are released from the axonal terminal of one neuronal, the “presynaptic cell”, the neurotransmitter then crosses the synapse and binds to the receptors of the post synaptic cells and causes ‘excitatory/inhibitory’ action
